Upset DT Williams lets media know he isn't a backup
After every Nebraska practice that media is allowed to attend, we often get individual player interviews in a crowded scrum.
When defensive tackle Kevin Williams approached the scrum Thursday evening, it seemed like business as usual but Kevin had something to get off his chest:
"I'm not a backup," Williams said. "I haven't been a backup since my redshirt freshman year, so I'd appreciate it if you guys didn't publish that or put it out there. I am not a backup, OK? I've been hurt twice and that set me back, but I have never been a backup. Just to get that straight - I don't want my name out there any more unless you have something good to say and you've got me in there as the No. 1 spot. I am not a backup and I have not been one since my redshirt freshman year. That's all I've got to say, and I won't do any more interviews until you get that right."
To be fair, Williams has played in 15 games over three years and started just two. Most would classify him as the third defensive tackle but that isn't a big sign of disrespect as the Huskers have two very good players on the roster in Maliek Collins and Vincent Valentine.
If nothing else, fans have to hope that his fiery attitude infects the defense as a whole and they can all play with a chip on their shoulders.
