Utah's Kyle Whittingham is early candidate for Coach of the Year
Utah lost both their offensive and defensive coordinator over the off-season; head coach Kyle Whittingham's job was in question preseason, too.
After a $200,000 raise and a one-year contract extension, Whittingham remained with Utah. Now through four games, Whittingham is undefeated. According to ESPN.com's Chris Low, he's also been the best coach in college football.
"Nobody has done a better coaching job than Whittingham in the first month of the season," writes Low. "His team has two of the season's best wins (hosting Michigan and at Oregon), and he's done it after losing both coordinators in the offseason."
Low also includes Hugh Freeze from Ole Miss, Brian Kelly from Notre Dame, Jim McElwain from Florida and Matt Rhule from Temple as other candidates for the honor.
