Valpo coach Cecchini lands contract extension
(STATS) - Valparaiso coach Dave Cecchini has been rewarded for the program's first winning season since 2003 with a contract extension that runs through the 2020 season.
In his fourth season, the Pioneer Football League coach of the year and STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award finalist led the Crusaders to a 6-5 record, including 5-3 in the league.
"During his tenure at Valpo, Dave Cecchini has showed that he is a quality football coach and an individual of high character," athletic director Mark LaBarbera said in announcing the extension on Wednesday. "I am extremely proud of the way he has changed the program's culture and restored the pride in Valpo football."
Cecchini is 15-29 at Valpo. The Crusaders won just three games - all against the same opponent - in the four seasons prior to his arrival.
Valpo is expected to bring back 17 starters in 2018.
