Virginia Tech star CB Fuller out for the season
Virginia Tech will have to go the rest of the season without all-American cornerback Kendall Fuller, who had surgery on his right knee on Tuesday.
The junior all-ACC preseason performer tore his meniscus in the preseason and fought through the pain throughout the Hokies first three games of the year, but was a late scratch last Saturday before their 35-28 loss to East Carolina.
“Kendall was very determined to compete as long as he could with this injury,” Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said in a release on Wednesday. “While we are all disappointed that he is sidelined for the remainder of the season, we know Kendall will approach his rehab with a positive attitude and will continue to contribute to our team with his knowledge and leadership.
“Kendall courageously attempted to play the first three games of this season with a torn meniscus that occurred during preseason camp in August,” head athletic trainer Mike Goforth said. “After this past weekend’s game, it was decided that surgery would be the best option moving forward, and Kendall will miss the remainder of the 2015 football season. The procedure was performed Tuesday morning and Kendall is expected to have a full recovery.”
Virginia Tech is expected to start freshman Terrell Edmunds in his place this weekend when it hosts Pitt at noon.
