Wake Forest radio analyst fired for leaking gameplans to opponents
Wake Forest radio analyst Tommy Elrod has been fired after an investigation revealed that he leaked gameplan information to multiple opponents, the school announced Tuesday. He is also banned from the school’s athletic facilities
Elrod was an assistant coach for the Demon Deacons under former head coach Jim Grobe until Grobe was fired after the 2013 season. He joined the team’s broadcast crew on the Wake Forest IMG Radio Network in 2014.
Wake Forest began investigating a possible leak after gameplan documents were found at Louisville’s stadium before the Demon Deacons-Cardinals game in November. That investigation, using phone records, text messages and emails, revealed that Elrod “provided or attempted to provide confidential and proprietary game preparations on multiple occasions, starting in 2014.”
Elrod was previously a football player at Wake from 1993 to 1997 and joined the coaching staff after graduation, eventually rising to the position of quarterbacks coach and co-passing game coordinator.
