Washington State to play more under center in 2015?
The Washington State Cougars ran just one play under center in 2014; however, it seems as though the team may be looking to put their QB under center more often this upcoming season.
Despite the fact that head coach Mike Leach loves to run his offense out of the shotgun, he has been known to mix it up and line his QB under center. He's proved as much at other stops, such as Texas Tech.
According to Jacob Thorpe of The Spokesman-Review, the Cougars may run the offense under center "as much as one-quarter of the time."
"With our offensive line, our quarterback, and the running backs we have, it's a perfect time to get under center," running backs coach Jim Mastro said, according to ESPN's David Lombardi. "We can establish a traditional run game now and give defenses something else to look at."
Of the proposed switch, Leach has this to say, according to Thorpe:
"I think these quarterbacks are more inclined in that direction. Just one of the idiosyncrasies with Connor (Halliday), he's more of a (shot)gun guy, and we'll always be a gun team, anyways, so that'll always be a bigger part of it."
