Watch as Eastern Washington pulls off daring trickeration to steal win
Eastern Washington is one of the best football schools you have never seen, or probably heard of.
The Eagles have already defeated Washington State and took FCS No. 1 North Dakota State -- which downed Iowa Saturday -- to overtime despite losing All-American wideout Cooper Kupp to a shoulder injury.
On Saturday, Eastern Washington had to dip into its bag of tricks on the road to come away with a miraculous victory against Northern Iowa.
The Eagles fell behind by double digits early, and were trailing late when they appeared to be going for a 40-yard field goal in the final minute to try and win the game.
Ah, trickeration. Head coach Beau Baldwin had holder Riley Hennessey take the snap, rise and roll. He then found sophomore tight end Beau Byus -- what is it with Eastern Washington and Beaus? -- for the game-winning score in a 34-30 triumph.
"In my head I just tried to play the percentages, that's all it really is," Baldwin told KREM of electing to pass on a 40-yard field goal into the wind. "We thought that was a higher percentage to hit, and we did something a little different. We didn't run that for the first time out here. Like anything, you better be executing it in practice and working on it, then be willing to go for it when the moment arises."
The victory was all the sweeter as the Eagles were without All-American wideout Cooper Kupp, who missed the game with a shoulder injury.
