Wayne Gallman won't be practicing this week

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Wayne Gallman is out all next week with a concussion. Will this hurt Clemson’s chances against a much-improved Seminole defense? Not likely.

The Tigers’ star RB, Wayne Gallman, was diagnosed with a concussion after Saturday’s game against North Carolina State.

Early in last Saturday’s game, Gallman took a nasty helmet-to-helmet hit from Wolfpack linebacker Dravious Wright early in the first quarter and did not return to the game. Coach Dabo Swinney stated that Gallman wanted to return to the game and was upset when he was not allowed. In a statement last Saturday, Swinney said, “We’ve got two weeks before we play again, and he’ll go through the protocol.”

The Tigers have a bye week, which should help Gallman’s recovery. The team has not reported whether he will be playing against Florida State on October 29, but his status is sketchy at best.

Hopefully C.J. Fuller can take up the reins, and QB Watson’s stellar running game should keep the Tigers competitive, but if Gallman cannot play he will not be easy to replace. Gallman holds Clemson’s single-season rushing mark with 1,527 yards and he leads the team with 489 yards and five TDs. So let’s hope for a speedy recovery before the Tigers’ grudge match against a loaded Seminole offense.
