West Virginia puts greater emphasis on red-zone efficiency
It's hard to poke too many holes in West Virginia's 44-0 throttling of Georgia Southern on either side of the ball. But Mountaineer quarterback Skyler Howard thinks West Virginia can improve its red zone efficiency.
The offense converted just three touchdowns in seven red zone tries on Saturday.
“We've got to get the ball in the end zone,” Howard said. “The ball has to get from Point A to Point B. That's what I am focusing on this week.”
Beyond the minor red zone hiccup, the rest of the offense looked outstanding. Sophomore Shelton Gibson and freshman Jovon Durante led the way with 130 and 121 receiving yards, respectively.
By the looks of things, one tradition looks to continue in Morgantown: producing dynamic wide receivers. Following in the steps of Tavon Austin, Kevin White and Stedman Bailey, Gibson and Durante certainly looked the part.
