West Virginia targets pair of QBs for 2017 recruiting class
As West Virginia tries to settle its current quarterback situation, it's doing its best to fortify its quarterback situation down the road.
The Mountaineer coaching staff is currently homing in on a couple QBs who are only sophomores right now, but are displaying impressive talent that they hope will transfer to the college level.
The first is Sean Clifford from St. Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the other is Davis Mills from Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, Ga, both of whom are receiving loads of attention from Power 5 coaching staffs in addition to West Virginia.
Mills, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound four-star recruit, recently made the trip to Morgantown for West Virginia's spring game and was delighted with his experience.
"It was great," Mills told the Charleston Gazette. "I talked to [graduate assistant Michael] Burchett a lot and some of the other coaches. They definitely want me up there. The facilities were nice, and I really fit the offense."
Clifford, who hasn't been quite as hotly recruited as Mills, has offers from Cincinnati, Louisville and Pitt, and has drawn interest from Notre Dame.
He has yet to pay the Mountaineers a visit, but is interested in learning more about WVU.
"I'm very excited because it's a Big 12 offer," Clifford said of his offer from West Virginia. "I haven't really gotten to look into West Virginia; I think it's going to be a new experience. When it comes from a football standpoint, I know about them, but not anything about academics or the campus. I'll have to review that this summer."
