What happened last time UCLA was top-ranked team in conference?

It's been a tough, dramatic day for UCLA fans across the country -- the loss of star defender Myles Jack has left a sorrowful mood surrounding the program.

Ranked by the AP Top 25 as the No. 9 overall team in the country, one saving grace is that UCLA is the top-ranked team in the Pac-12 conference. But without Jack (and two other all-conference defenders, also lost for the season) vs. Arizona, some may start to worry.

ESPN.com's Ted Miller threw some salt on the wound this morning, noting what happened last time UCLA was the best team in the conference. According to Miller, UCLA was No. 4 overall in Week 9 of 2001.
