Win or lose, Clemson's Swinney is throwing a Tigers pizza party big enough for 20,000

It’s party time in Death Valley. On Tuesday, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said he would hold a free pizza party at Death Valley whether the Tigers win their ACC championship game with North Carolina on Saturday or not.

Swinney originally said he would throw a stadium pizza party if No. 1 Clemson (12-0) made it to the College Football Playoffs. As of now, the Tigers are in line to make the CFP, but a loss to No. 14 UNC (11-1) on Saturday would eliminate them from playoff contention.

On Tuesday, Swinney said the party will still be held on Sunday, win or lose.

“Regardless of whether we win or lose the game Saturday night, this team needs to needs to be celebrated,” Swinney said via Greenville Online. “We’re gonna have a pizza party.

Papa John's will be supplying the pizza for the party and Clemson said it’s ordering enough slices for 20,000 people, which is based on the turnout of a usual preseason fan day.

"They’ll open the stadium. We’re gonna have a DJ, we’re gonna have a heck of a time," Swinney said. "And we’re gonna celebrate this team and we’re gonna celebrate our next post season destination."

If Clemson beats North Carolina, the party is set to start at noon, when the College Football Playoff playings are announced. If Clemson loses to North Carolina, the party will start at 3 p.m., when the New Year's Day bowl games are announced.

“Put that on your calendar. Pizza party. TBA on the time," Swinney said. "Will be announced about 1:30 a.m. Saturday night.”
