Breaking Down the Interior Recruiting Class for Wisconsin Football

National Signing Day has came and went once again this year with an array of action unfolding over the course of the entire day. For Wisconsin Football fans, the day went as expected with one extra get as the Badgers landed four star recruit Danny Davis in a late flip over to Wisconsin. It may not have been as glamorous as other schools, but the Badgers filled a multitude of needs for next year and future seasons. At the end of it all Wisconsin Football finished in the 33rd spot of overall class ranking with two Four Star Recruits and a multitude of 3 Stars. Lets take a look at the position by position grading of the class of 2017 continuing with the Interior Line and Tight End.

Offensive Line

Tyler Beach

Alex Fenton

Kayden Lyles

Adam Bay

One of the biggest strengths of the 2017 class is that of the offensive line, per usual for Wisconsin Football. Tyler Beach projects as a tackle for Wisconsin with good size and length at 6’6″. Top offensive lineman is something Wisconsin Football hangs its hat on, and Beach could translate to another. A couple years of strength training and getting used to the system will do Beach some good, and he could be a real monster for Wisconsin. Logan Bruss is the same type, as some time to develop will do him some good. His strength appears well, but size could definitely be improved. He’s a Wisconsin kid coming from Kimberly, and will certainly grow once he gets into the system. Alex Fenton is more of a project, as he has never played offensive line but blocked heavily at tight end. He has good feet and size, so he translates to offensive line well. The big learning curve will be in pass protection. Kayden Lyles is the star of the position, and arguably the class as the other four star recruit. Lyles joins his brother Kare at UW, and will look to compete for a starting position right away. The position is deep, but Lyles is a special talent. Hes strong and fiery, and will only get stronger at UW. He possess the potential to be a top talent in a few years. Adam Bay is a long snapper that will step in day one to replace Connor Udelhoven at the position, while it does carry any glam, it can be a vital position for all.

Tight End

Jake Ferguson

The Badgers only landed one tight end in the class of 2017, but boy is he a good one. Ferguson stands at 6-5 190, so size will be one thing that he will have to work on as he transitions to Wisconsin. Ferguson often lined up as a receiver at Madison Memorial so he possesses quality ball skills and hands. With that however, comes growing pains as Ferguson will have to learn to be more of a run blocker in the run heavy system at Wisconsin. The nice thing for Ferguson is that he has ample time to develop those skills. Multiple tight ends are used at Wisconsin, but the position is one of the deepest the Badgers have. Fumagalli will be back as the primary tight end both blocking and receiving, and Kyle Penniston will be on the field much much more. Zander Nueville will be the primary extra blocking tight end. With the many different players on the depth chart Ferguson will not be on the field next season, which will give him time to grow into that traditional tight end position that Wisconsin requires.
