With Mangum 'probable,' Cougars getting Hoge ready to face Cincinnati

Published Oct. 13, 2015 10:16 a.m. ET

Backup quarterback Beau Hoge is typically the scout team quarterback at BYU practice, but with starter Tanner Mangum nursing a hamstring injury, Hoge is getting the majority of the first team reps in practice.

Mangum is probable for Friday night's game, according to Bronco Mendenhall, but the team still wants Hoge to be ready to go. Judging by how BYU's season has gone, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see the third-string QB to get some more action here soon.

BYU plays Cincinnati this week, which just so happens to be Hoge's home town.

Asked if the game had any added significance, Hoge didn't budge.

“No, Hoge said. "It’s just another game.”
