Wofford wrapping up spring practice
(STATS) - Wofford is set to conclude spring practice on Monday, already looking forward to what could be a banner 2017 season.
Last year, the Terriers tied for second place in the Southern Conference and reached the FCS national quarterfinals while finishing 10-4.
Coach Mike Ayers, entering his 30th season in Spartanburg, South Carolina, says the defense has appeared ahead of last year's excellent unit during intrasquad scrimmages. It returns eight starters.
The bigger changes will be on offense, which returns six starters. Junior-to-be Andre Stoddard hopes to step into the fullback's role left behind by SoCon rushing champ Lorenzo Long. Quarterback Joe Newman is being fazed into a rotation with returning starter Brandon Goodson, while running backs Blake Morgan, Ellis Pace and Ostin McPherson have impressed during spring practice.
Wofford will open its 2017 schedule by hosting Furman in a conference matchup Sept. 2.
