Would Kevin Steele be a Potential Replacement for Les Miles at LSU?
With Les Miles gone, would LSU look to its former defensive coordinator in Kevin Steele as a potential replacement?
We all knew that Les Miles was on a short leash this season, and losing to Auburn with a terrible performance by the offense seemed to be all it took.
Now the search for LSU’s next head coach begins, with 20 names already being mentioned as possible replacements.
Kevin Steele has yet to be mentioned as one of those names, but should he be considered a candidate?
He has head coaching experience, albeit he didn’t exactly do great at Baylor with a 9-36 record over four years.

But since then he’s had plenty of success at high-profile programs such as Florida State, Alabama, Clemson, LSU and now Auburn.
He was only at LSU for one season before jumping over to Auburn, so I don’t think there is much of a connection there. Still, there would be some familiarity with the players and staff that are already in place.
LSU is strictly built on its defense, and I think he could continue that legacy.
The only problem is I think LSU will want to bring in an offensive guy as the lack of offense is what ultimately doomed Les Miles.
Plus, I’m not sure that Kevin Steele is quite ready for another head coaching job, or if he would even want one.
There is no denying that he is a great defensive coordinator.
Last year LSU’s defense held opponents to 347.2 yards and 24.3 points per game. This year with Auburn they’ve held teams to 385.3 yards and 18.8 points per game.
My concern with Kevin Steele, even when we hired him, is that he never sticks in one place very long. So even though I don’t think he’s a fit to become LSU’s next head football coach, you’ll always be wondering what his next move will be.
LSU will most likely go after a big time coach, but Nick Saban and Les Miles were somewhat unknowns when they hired them. Maybe they will go after someone that no one expects them to hire.
However, it won’t be Kevin Steele.
