You can start looking ahead real soon: 25 predictions about Iowa State-OU

Let's face it, theres not been a lot of excitement with Oklahoma football lately.

Oh, the games have been routs, which is good for all those in crimson and cream, but as far compelling football, well, there's been a void there.

Probably going to be the case once again today, too.

Iowa State comes to town to wrap up a month's worth of games that don't exactly provide much in the way of sustenance in what looks like a pretty good start to the season and what should be a great finish, too.

So, it's OK to look ahead, right? I mean, it's not like it's easy to stay focused. After all, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley interviewed for the head coaching job at North Texas during the week, and we're supposed to get fired up for Iowa State?

It's not like Riley drove down to Denton, Texas, during Baylor week. Riley reaffirmed his commitment to Oklahoma Friday afternoon. But i'd understand if you would like to wait until next week to get focused. Completely understandable.

Let's just get through today, shall we? Here are 25 predictions to help get us to next week when the second season starts.

1. OU will come out extremely motivated again and score on its first possession. Just like we've become accustomed to. 2. Only this time it will come in four or less plays. 3. And cover more than 75 yards.

4. Dual 100-yard rushers today for Oklahoma. 5. Three if you count Iowa State's Mike Warren, the Lawton, Okla., product who comes into the game with 954 yards rushing on the season and averaging more than 6 per carry. It's going to be a big day for the Oklahoma running game as 6. Joe Mixon will have his best day as a Sooner. 7. He'll score twice. 8. One coming on a trick play.

The Cyclones looked great with Joel Lanning at quarterback last week in a 24-0 win over Texas. 9. Lanning won't be as sharp today. 10. He'll turn the ball over three times. 11. Once in the first quarter, which will result in an Oklahoma score. Oklahoma defensive lineman Charles Tapper was sensational last week against Kansas and was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. 12. Tapper will have two more sacks today and 13. Iowa State will have less than 300 total yards.

But it's the OU offense everyone has marveled at the past month. The Sooners have scored 50 or more points in three games in a row. 14. Make it four. 15. The Sooners won't have any problems once again with their offense. 16. They'll score at least 28 by halftime and have 17. 500 or more total yards by the end.

18. And you'll wonder why North Texas didn't hire Riley on the spot. Now, Riley did say he was "focused" at OU, but Riley also never denied making the short trip down I-35 either. There's no reason to worry about Riley leaving for UNT. He's not going there. Now, he may bolt for something a bit more prestigious than the Mean Green, but you can count on 19. Riley not interviewing anywhere else during the season. Or if he does, you won't know about it.

But there aren't a lot of secrets with the Sooners. 20. Baker Mayfield will continue to dazzle and will 21. throw three more touchdown passes. 22. And run for one, too.

23. You'll watch and think no team in the Big 12 is playing as well as the Sooners right now. 24. And you'll be right, too.

25. Sooners cover again. Give the 24.5 points. OU wins 55-14.

Last week: 15-10

Overall: 115-86
