Scotty Walden, the 27-year-old head coach of Division III East Texas Baptist, will be the new inside receivers coach at Southern Miss, a source told FOX Sports on Wednesday.

Last year, Walden was the youngest head coach in all of NCAA football.

Walden is considered by many around coaching as a rising star in the business. The former Division III quarterback — like Southern Miss offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson — comes from the Hal Mumme tree. Walden’s offense averaged 49.9 points per game this past season, leading all of DIII football, in his debut year. ETBU was also second in the nation in total offense at 564 yards per game.
