Top 10 Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Adds (Jan. 17)
Every Monday, D.J. Foster will highlight 10 potential waiver wire adds for your fantasy basketball team. Here are the selections for the week of January 17:
Fantasy Basketball Top 10 Waiver Adds (January 17) | |||
Player | Position | Games | Note |
Tyler Johnson | PG/SG | 3 | Injuries to multiple players in the backcourt will open up big minutes and opportunities to contribute in multiple categories with strong percentagaes. |
Mirza Teletovic | SF/PF | 3 | Three-point specialist is averaging four 3PM a game over his last five contests and is receiving consistent minutes. |
D'Angelo Russell | PG/SG | 3 | You can't trust Byron Scott, but Russell is starting to provide threes and assists with more playing time. |
Dennis Schroder | PG | 4 | Quietly outplaying Jeff Teague and filling in more for the banged-up Kyle Korver. Sneaky provider of rebounds and assists at the guard spot. |
Robert Covington | SF/PF | 3 | Keeps his spot on the list for a second straight week after rattling off 41 points and 10 3PM in last two games. |
Devin Booker | SG | 3 | Will continue to get plenty of opportunity with Phoenix's injury sitauation. Mainly a provider of threes and points. |
Trey Lyles | PF | 4 | Very playable as long as Derrick Favors remains out. Averaging 17.5 PPG over his last three games. |
Cameron Payne | PG | 4 | Russell Westbrook's backup is proving too good to keep off the floor. Playing time should continue to grow, which makes him a viable stash candidate. |
Rodney Hood | SG/SF | 4 | If you didn't grab him last week, go get him. Hood is an efficient, consistent source of points the rest of the way. |
Bobby Portis | PF | 4 | With Joakim Noah sidelined for the next few months, it's Portis time in Chicago. He can fill up the stat sheet. |
Out of that group, I'd be most excited about nabbing Hood. He doesn't have as high of a ceiling as someone like Russell, but he's going to play big minutes and he doesn't take anything off the table. Covington also has no business being on your waiver wire.
Safe to cut: Danny Green, Brandon Jennings, Joakim Noah
Monday DFS value play: Mario Chalmers ($5,600)
Make sure that Mike Conley is out once again before you pencil him in, but Chalmers should be a safe play Monday. He's had a few monster games with Conley out and has a high floor thanks to his big minutes load against a Pelicans team that's terrible defensively and plays at a high pace.
