PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) Adam Scott is trying to build a golf game that can handle any golf course and any tournament.
Now if he can just get it to show up at the U.S. Open.
The No. 1 player in the world is among the favorites when the U.S. Open gets underway Thursday at Pinehurst No. 2. Scott won his first major last year at the Masters. He easily could have won the last two British Opens. He was in the hunt at the PGA Championship.
But the toughest test in golf? He hasn't broken 70 in five years and has never finished higher than 15th.
Scott is hopeful that will change this week. The 33-year-old Australian is among the best drivers in golf, one of the key elements for a U.S. Open.
