Angels skipping Shoemaker in rotation due to forearm strain
A right forearm strain will sideline Matt Shoemaker of the Los Angeles Angels at least one start, it was announced over the weekend.
The news comes after Shoemaker threw back-to-back strong outings for the Halos, allowing just one run over his past 14 1/3 innings of work. Fortunately for the team, his strain is considered to be a minor issue.
Shoemaker updated MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez about the diagnosis on Saturday: "Once they told me what was going on, it definitely put my mind at ease. It's soreness/strain. The timeline is unknown, day to day. Hopefully it'll just be a few days. We're just playing it safe."
When asked about Shoemaker's prognosis, pitching coach Mike Butcher used the phrase "it's not all doom and gloom", so it's evident the Angels are hopeful that he will only miss one turn through the rotation (barring any setbacks).
In Shoemaker's absence, the club turns to Nick Tropeano to pitch against Zack Greinke and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
So far in 2015, Shoemaker is 7-9 with a 4.31 ERA in roughly 131 innings of work.
