Anthony Rizzo isn't keeping the ball from the last out of Game 7
When Kris Bryant fielded a ground ball and threw over to first base to officially end Game 7 of the World Series — making the Chicago Cubs champions for the first time in 108 years — Anthony Rizzo caught a piece of incredibly valued history.
The baseball that recorded the final out could likely fetch millions of dollars on the open market, and Rizzo of course knew how precious it was.
He immediately shoved it into his back pocket before joining the fray.
During the celebration, Rizzo clutched it like it was his own life.
The obvious question then was what Rizzo would do with the baseball.
Would he keep it? Would he give it to Mike Montgomery, who earned his first career save by getting that final out? Would he send it immediately to Cooperstown?
During the Cubs' World Series parade on Friday, Rizzo finally revealed his plans and surprised team owner Tom Ricketts with the ball.
"Everyone came here to do one thing, and that's win the World Series. The man that really made that happen is our owner, Mr. Tom Ricketts. He sacrificed everything for the Chicago Cubs and for this city, and it only feels right for me to hand this ball over to Mr. Ricketts."
