AP source: Rockies, Ottavino agree to $10.4M, 3-year deal
DENVER (AP) A person with knowledge of the situation says the Colorado Rockies and right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino have agreed on a $10.4 million, three-year contract.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal, which avoids salary arbitration, had yet to be announced.
Ottavino gets $1.3 million next year, $2.1 million in 2017 and $7 million in 2018. He would have been eligible for free agency after the 2017 season.
The 30-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in May. The team is hoping to have him back sometime around the All-Star break.
Ottavino went on the disabled list in late April with right triceps inflammation soon after he was promoted to closer. Ottavino didn't surrender a run in 10 1-3 innings last season, when he made $1.3 million.
Originally selected by St. Louis with the 30th overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft, Ottavino was acquired off waivers by Colorado in 2012.
The agreement was first reported by CBS.
