Astros' Altuve needs late push to surpass Royals' Infante in All-Star voting
MLB's most recent voting update for the All-Star Game was announced on Monday, and reigning AL batting champion/Houston Astros star Jose Altuve is still slightly behind Kansas City Royals second baseman Omar Infante for the starting nod at the position.
After the latest update (provided here by MLB.com), Altuve checked in with 7,282,934 votes, as compared to Infante's 7,514,642 tallies in his favor.
Fan voting concludes on Thursday, with the starting lineups to be unveiled on Sunday afternoon ahead of the game on Tuesday, July 14.
The Astros and Royals, coincidentally, kicked off a first-place battle on Monday night at Minute Maid Park, where Altuve and his 'Stros knocked off K.C. 6-1. Altuve went 1-4 in the contest, blasting a home run off Joe Blanton in the process.
If Astros fans want their star to represent the American League at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati in anything other than a reserve role (which he'd obviously get as a consolation prize), they'd better start voting heavily over the next few days.
