Baltimore Orioles: Chris Davis and Manny Machado are Gold Glove finalists
With award season just around the corner, Chris Davis and Manny Machado might have to leave room on their mantle for a potential Gold Glove Award
Chris Davis and Manny Machado may not have led the Baltimore Orioles to a long playoff run, but they’ll at least have a chance to take home some hardware.
Machado and Davis were nominated in their respective positions for a Gold Glove Award, which is given to the best all-around fielder on the diamond. All of the nominees are selected by managers, players and defensive statistics. Major League Baseball will announce the winners on November 8th, which will air on ESPN.
Manny Machado is nominated at third base despite playing shortstop for seven weeks. Machado ranked behind Adrian Beltre of the Texas Rangers in UZR and made seven errors. Machado’s competition is Beltre and Kyle Seager of the Seattle Mariners. Machado last won the award in 2015, Seager won the award in 2014 and Beltre received nominations in 2011 and 2012. Machado was also the recipient of the Platinum Glove, which was voted by the fans in 2013.
Davis is one of the three finalists along with Eric Hosmer of the Kansas City Royals and Mitch Moreland of the Texas Rangers. Davis was nominated for a Gold Glove in 2013 but lost to Hosmer. Hosmer won the Gold Glove Award every year since 2013.
Davis was selected because of his strong arm. However, made 10 errors at first base which was tied for the most at the position. But he made a league-high 39 scoops at first base and saved eight defensive runs, the most for a first baseman.

Despite Machado and Davis earning nominations, the Orioles were looked over for other positions. Shortstop J.J. Hardy, catcher Matt Wieters, second baseman Jonathan Schoop, and center fielder Adam Jones missed out on nominations.
