Blue Jays GM Anthopoulos speaks on David Price deal

In case you haven't heard, the Toronto Blue Jays are going for it all this year.

Just hours after acquiring short stop Troy Tulowitzki from the Colorado Rockies, the Jays made another big splash, trading for a bonafide ace in David Price from the Detroit Tigers.

How were they able to pull off the Price deal?

General manager Alex Anthopoulos spoke to the media and explained how the deal went down. Here's the recap from the National Post:

Anthopoulos inquired about Price a week ago. [Tigers GM Dave] Dombrowski said he wasn’t available. Then, late Wednesday afternoon, Dombrowski called and said he’d changed his mind. He would call back later, but it was clear he intended to act quickly.

At 11:30, after Tulowitzki electrified fans in his Jays debut, Dombrowski called back. He wanted three prospects. Anthopoulos agreed to two. They haggled over the third. Anthopoulos refused to say which player sealed the deal.

The deal went down fairly quickly, as Price was on the market for just hours before everything was agreed upon.

After Thursday's win, the Blue Jays are 52-51 and poised for a huge run to close out the season.
