Brandon Crawford is in the midst of a breakout season at the plate for the San Francisco Giants, but he was honored on Tuesday with an award that celebrates much more than his offensive performance.

The shortstop was granted the Giants' Heart and Hustle Award on Tuesday by the MLB Players Alumni, succeeding Hunter Pence after the outfielder earned the award in back-to-back seasons.

The Heart and Hustle Award, which has been issued by the MLB Players Alumni Association since 2005, is granted by MLB alumni and current players to an active player on each team who "demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game."

Previous Giants recipients of the award in addition to Pence include Melky Cabrera, Andres Torres, Pablo Sandoval, Randy Winn, Omar Vizquel, and Steve Finley.
