Braves' Freeman set to return to the lineup against Padres

Published Aug. 19, 2015 12:06 p.m. ET

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman will come off the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and start the finale of a three-game series at the San Diego Padres.

Freeman has been sidelined since Aug. 3 due to a right oblique strain. He was injured in his 10th game back after missing more than a month with a sprained right wrist.

Despite sitting out 43 games this season, Freeman still leads Atlanta with 14 home runs. He has been durable in the past, playing in every game last year and at least 147 contests in each of his first four full seasons.

The Braves could use Freeman's bat in the lineup. They have lost 17 of their last 19 on the road and open a four-game series at the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.
