Bryant breaks up Marquez's no-hit bid with double in 7th
DENVER (AP) Chicago third baseman Kris Bryant doubled to lead off the seventh inning to break up a no-hitter by Rockies right-hander German Marquez on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Marquez walked Kyle Schwarber in the first and then retired 16 straight before Bryant's hit to left. Marquez kept the Cubs guessing by mixing in a mid-90s fastball with an assortment of breaking pitches.
He was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on April 25 to fill in for an injured Jon Gray.
There has only been one no-hitter at Coors Field - by Hideo Nomo on Sept 17, 1996, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The only no-hitter in Rockies history was by Ubaldo Jimenez on April 17, 2010, at Atlanta.
Colorado leads 1-0 on Ian Desmond's RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth.
