Bryant thankful to get first homer back
Marcus Hanel, the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen catcher, caught a historic home run Saturday night, but he knew he wouldn't keep the ball.
Hanel was on the receiving end of Kris Bryant's first Major League home run, but rather than keep the ball or put it on display in his house, he opted to give the ball back to the Cubs' young phenom.
“We are all family, and that's a cherished moment,” Hanel told Brewers.com. “I'm not going to hold random for that. I mean, yeah, I wish I was a fan, because that thing would have been cool. But that's a moment for him and for baseball. You give those things back.”
And Bryant certainly appreciated the gesture as well. As a thank you to Hanel, Bryant provided a signed baseball.
