Bryce Harper on Mets starter Jacob deGrom: 'He should be a closer'

Published Jul. 22, 2015 12:05 p.m. ET

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is impressed with Mets starter Jacob deGrom, although he has one tip for the Mets' coaching staff on how to use their ace.

"I think he should be a closer," said Harper, playfully (via ESPN.com). "Throwing 98 to 99 miles an hour with a 92-miles-an-hour slider? Very impressive. He's a lot of fun to watch."

Harper saw deGrom at work firsthand during last week's All-Star Game in Cincinnati, as he was stationed behind him in right field when he had one of the most impressive innings in All-Star history.

Harper went 0-for-2 against deGrom in Tuesday night's Nats-Mets matchup, and is 3-for-10 lifetime against the reigning NL Rookie of the Year.
