Bumgarner: 'I'm not here to pitch perfect games or no-hitters'

Madison Bumgarner nearly made personal and MLB history by throwing a perfect game on Saturday, but he wasn't exactly distraught that he didn't pull off the feat.

"I'm not here to pitch perfect games or no-hitters," the lefty ace said. "It would definitely be special no matter what, but my main concern is winning games."

Bumgarner picked up his 18th win of the season with his gem on Saturday, in which he only surrendered one hit and struck out nine in a shutout. He would have become only the 24th pitcher in major-league history to throw a perfect game.

"You just feel like it's a matter of time with him," manager Bruce Bochy said. "He's been so close."

When asked if he was disappointed about falling short of the rare feat by a single hit, Bumgarner insisted he was unfazed.

"If there was [disappointment], I wouldn't tell you, but there's really not," the 26-year-old lefty said.
