Cain one of seven Royals to file for arbitration
The Kansas City Royals saw seven of their players file for salary arbitration ahead of Tuesday's deadline. On Friday, teams and players will exchange salary suggestions in the next phase of this process before everything is squared away (or not) in time for the 2016 season.
Among the Royals to file (as reported by MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan) were 2015 All-Star outfielder Lorenzo Cain, 2015 All-Star third baseman Mike Moustakas, outfielder Jarrod Dyson, pitcher Danny Duffy, catchers Tony Cruz and Drew Butera and right-hander Louis Coleman.
Cain is coming off a stellar season that saw him finish third in AL MVP voting after hitting .307/.361/.477 with 16 home runs, 72 RBI in 140 games, good for a 7.2 WAR. He'll likely receive a pretty hefty payday above the roughly $2.7 million he was paid last season.
Once the formality of the arbitration process is over, Kansas City will be able to return focus to to the task at hand, which is now to prove the pundits wrong and finish better than 79-83 and avoid suffering the dreaded post-World Series 'hangover'.
