Calhoun willing to move to LF if Heyward signs with Angels

Kole Calhoun just won a Gold Glove award for his defensive exploits in right field, but the Los Angeles Angels' energetic outfielder says he wouldn't be opposed to moving over to left should the team need him to do so.

The Halos' plan for the Winter Meetings this week is to work on finding a solution for their left field vacancy - but Calhoun could very well be that 'fix' if the club was to sign someone along the lines of Jason Heyward. Heyward is one of the premier defensive outfielders in the league, and he plays right field.

Calhoun recently told Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com that he would not oppose moving around the outfield to facilitate the addition of a player like Heyward:

Of course, Heyward won't come cheaply and will almost assuredly earn one of the biggest free agent contracts on the market this offseason.

"If our team is going to get better, and that's the way we're going to get better, I'm all for it," Calhoun said in a phone conversation. "We'll see what happens. I'm not the GM. He's got some tough decisions to make here pretty soon. And we need more than a corner outfielder; we need a few more things, too. We'll see where it goes. But if we're going to make the team better, that's what all of us have to be all about. We're all in. We want to have a great season; we want to get back to the playoffs, we want to go further than we've been in a while. If that's going to help us, then so be it."

They may end up being priced out of Heyward's services, but a potential defensive outfield of Calhoun, Heyward and Mike Trout would easily be one of the best assembled in quite some time.
