Cano scratched from Mariners lineup with sore right quad

TORONTO (AP) Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has been scratched from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays because of a sore right quadriceps.

Mike Freeman will start for Seattle against Blue Jays right-hander Marco Estrada, batting seventh. Nelson Cruz moves up from fourth to third in the order.

Cano is batting .296 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs this season. The seven-time All-Star had homered in each of the past two games, both victories, but left Tuesday's win at Philadelphia after four innings because of quad soreness.

Also Thursday, the Mariners claimed right-hander Casey Lawrence on waivers from Toronto, recalled left-hander Zac Curtis from Double-A Arkansas, and optioned right-hander Dan Altavilla to Triple-A Tacoma.

Altavilla is 1-1 with a 6.97 ERA in 12 games.
