Cardinals' Molina producing despite age

Age eventually catches up to everyone and people were starting to wonder if it had finally caught up with Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, 33.

Well, it may be time to hit the brakes on that theory, at least for a little while longer.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "Molina doesn't have the authoritative power we saw between 2011 and 2013, when he averaged 16 homers, 35 doubles and a .481 slugging percentage over three seasons.

But Molina's offense has regenerated in this month of June. He's batting .333 with a .375 on-base percentage, two homers and and .470 slugging percentage this month. His season slugging percentage is only .374, but there's nothing wrong with his BA (.298) or OBP (.343.)"

No one is arguing that Molina is still in his prime, but the Cardinals backstop is still one of the better catchers in the game and the it's certainly not a coincidence that the Cardinals – with Molina – are once again having a great year.

"Molina may not be at the same level that rolled up 5.5 WAR in 2013 —but let's not be delusional here. Molina remains a catcher of substantial value. And if the Cardinals lost him for an extended period, it would be difficult to keep pitching and winning as they have in 2015. "
