Cardinals' Wainwright calls radio station to voice displeasure with fantasy draft

While St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright is typically a safe pick in fantasy baseball leagues, his return from an Achilles injury could mean a drop in his fantasy value.

That's what happened when Sirius XM held its F.S.T.A. Experts Baseball Draft on Tuesday, with Wainwright lasting until the seventh round, as the 22nd pitcher taken.

Apparently, Wainwright was listening, because he decided to call in to the station to voice his displeasure.

Wainwright didn't directly give in to saying he is better than any of the other pitchers taken before him, but he did vow to make those who passed him over in the draft regret it this coming season.

The Cardinals are hoping for a bounce-back season in 2016 for Wainwright, as is Steve Gardner of USA Today Sports, who took him in the fantasy draft. Wainwright appeared in just seven games in 2015. He ruptured his Achilles tendon running out of the batter's box in April, but he recovered in time to help the Cardinals down the final stretch out of the bullpen. In 2014, Wainwright was an All-Star, going 20-9 with a 2.38 ERA, finishing third in the Cy Young Award voting.
