Chicago Cubs News: Arrieta gets new tattoo; Maddon and the new CBA
The Chicago Cubs Jake Arrieta and Tommy La Stella went to TCU and Coastal Carolina, respectively. When the two teams met in the College World Series, the two made a small wager. Arrieta stayed true on his word–no matter how much it hurt.
Chicago Cubs’ starter Jake Arrieta and reserve Tommy La Stella had some fun during the CWS, placing a wager that was more than money. This one was permanent. The bet? The loser of the CWS had to get the winner tattooed on him. La Stella’s alma mater Coastal Carolina beat Arrieta’s TCU Horned Frogs and it was over. Now, Jake has a new tattoo. But I feel as if winning the World Series may have softened the blow a little bit.
The new CBA has some changes in it, and all teams are going to be affected. The Cubs’ Joe Maddon might find it a little more challenging, but not for the reasons the CBA set forth. Bullying and hazing–such as making rookies dress like women–is no longer allowed. It’s a “rite of passage” that has gone on for years, but normally behind closed doors. With social media, there’s no hiding it.

Kris Bryant dressed as Elsa from Frozen his rookie year. Kyle Schwarber and Carl Edwards took it in good fun. But some players around the league voiced their displeasure, and it might not have been as good natured as it was in Chicago. So Maddon will have to plan his themed road trips more carefully.
And in very sad news, Craig Sager died at 65 after his battle with cancer. The former Northwestern Wildcat was a colorful character on the NBA sidelines that will never be replaced. All of us here at Cubbies Crib offer our condolences to fans and friends of the legendary sideline reporter.
