Chicago Cubs: What does making the World Series mean to the fans?
For years, all Chicago Cubs’ fans wanted was a glimmer of hope, just a sense that things are improving, a light at the end of the tunnel.
Then, the 2015 season happened. The Chicago Cubs won 97 games and made an appearance in the NLCS. They were swept by the New York Mets, but, it was during this time, where Cubs fans finally had a glimmer of hope, that just maybe things were changing.
Then, in 2016, things only improved again. The 2016 season saw the Cubs as the best team in baseball from start to finish, winning 103 games, winning their first pennant in 71 years, and, now the Cubs are on the verge of their first World Series title in over 100 years.
First off, from a personal standpoint, for me…seeing the Cubs in the World Series is something I could have only imagined seeing in my lifetime.
Now that it’s actually here, I can’t really put into words what it means to me. Some of my feelings are happiness, pride, joy, giddiness are probably a few of my feelings to describe it.
It’s been a long time coming, but finally, The Chicago Cubs are exactly four wins away from breaking history, and making their own history, by winning the World Series.
Finally
Now, of course, I’m sure many other fans have similar feelings, and they just long for the one thing that has eluded this organization for a very long time. Finally, getting that brass ring would eliminate many years of stress, and angst.
Cubs’ fans feelings will be replaced with happiness and pride for their team. It’s no secret that Chicago is a Cubs’ city, the Cubs come first. Sure, the Blackhawks are there with their three cups in six years, but the Cubs are Chicago’s team.
Fan Reaction
Today, when I was spanning the twitter world, I thought it would be a good idea to get some input from other Cubs’ fans on what winning a World Series would mean to them, and some of the tweets can be found at the bottom of the page.
Of course, by now, it’s no secret that this Cubs’ team has a chance to be the greatest story in the history of sports. The fans know it, and the entire sports world knows what a story this is. Cubs’ fans want the weight lifted off of their shoulders.
This team is certainly capable of it, and these players want it as much as anybody. At long last, the time has come for us, as fans, to sit back and enjoy the ride.
My kids will never know the Cubs as "lovable losers." https://t.co/SGLsssw2ll

@mauro_erik it means we can still believe in our favorite teams. And more importantly, it means my parents can believe. They didn't think

@mauro_erik Winning the WS: going from "All-Star Bryan LaHair" to world champions in 4 years would be the end of an amazing sports story.

@mauro_erik hope can always overcome adversity. To me it would mean preparation and the little things pay off. Hardwork and planning.
