Chicago to host Cubs World Series victory parade on Friday

It has happened and the parade is happening on Friday. After some speculation that the city would host the Cubs' victory parade on Monday, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced at an event on Thursday that the World Series celebration would go down on Friday.

Emanuel was sparse on details but said that he's been in touch with Cubs owner Tom Ricketts and promised the long-awaited parade would "stand the test of time."

“Tomorrow as in Friday, as in around this time,” Emanuel told reporters at about noon. "Just stand somewhere in the middle of the city and you’ll see it. ... We’re literally working out the details right now as I’m standing in front of you.”

Update: The parade will begin at 11 a.m. ET and will be broadcast live on MLB Network and simulcast on MLB.com.

The Chicago Sun-Times notes that Chicago Public Schools students won’t even have to cut class because an already-scheduled “School Improvement Day" gives them the day off.
