Cruz hopes power surge helps Mariners turn the corner
On Tuesday, Seattle Mariners slugger Nelson Cruz crushed another booming home run - his fifth in five games.
While he continues to put on quite a marvelous show in the middle of the M's lineup, he is also echoing the sentiment expressed earlier in the week by his manager, Lloyd McClendon.
Namely: these Mariners aren't giving up on the season, despite entering play Wednesday 50-58.
Speaking with MLB.com after Tuesday's game, Cruz sounded hopeful that his efforts will help the club go on a sustained run: "We're building, we're confident. Anything can happen. We still have a lot of games left and we're just going to play like every game it's the last. And hopefully we can get something good from this."
There's no better way to boost team morale than by winning, and clubbing home runs every single day is a pretty effective way to win.
