Cruz leapfrogs Morales in DH race for All-Star Game with voting ending soon
With voting for the All-Star rosters coming to a close this Thursday, Nelson Cruz holds a precarious lead over Kansas City Royals DH Kendrys Morales as the top vote-getter for the position.
The league released the latest voting update on Monday, and it'll be the final update before the official rosters are announced this coming Sunday ahead of the All-Star Game at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park on Tuesday, July 14.
According to Mark Newman of MLB.com, Cruz has a tally of 8,891,784 votes to lead the DH category, while Morales is close on his heels with 8,686,879 votes in his favor.
Mariners fans only have a few more days left to go online and cast up to 35 votes for Cruz before the final numbers are crunched.
It's a given that Cruz, who entered play Tuesday with 19 home runs, 46 RBIs and a .305/.368/.552 slash line, will wind up in the All-Star Game even if he's relegated to 'reserve player' status, but his blazing start to the 2015 season warrants a starting nod...so M's fans have some work to do in order to make that a reality.
