Crying Cubs fan goes on 'Jimmy Kimmel,' cries again

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:38 p.m. ET

The past few weeks have presumably been a whirlwind for Ryan Slagle. Last week, the Cubs fan saw his favorite team capture its first pennant in 71 years and was caught on camera openly weeping while it did so.

After the footage of Slagle crying at a Chicago bar went viral following Game 6 of the NLCS, he was invited onto Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week. While appearing on the show remotely from Sluggers Sports Bar in Wrigleyville, Slagle, an Iraq War veteran, offered some insight into why he was so emotional. In typical Cubs fan fashion, Slagle was just assuming that the Cubbies would blow it somehow. When they didn't, the realization hit and a wave of emotions overcame him.

As they closed out the interview, Kimmel revealed that they are going to send Slagle and his girlfriend to a World Series game in Chicago, which -- to no one's surprise -- got Slagle's waterworks flowing again. It was pretty cool to see.

I'd say that getting free tickets to a historic World Series game is a pretty solid consolation prize for the entire world finding out that you're an ugly-cryer.
