Cubs "fan" Rex Ryan left Game 7 of World Series early
Rex Ryan left Game 7 of the World Series early during the rain delay.
One would think a Chicago Cubs fan at Game 7 of the 2016 World Series wouldn’t leave the game early. However, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan is far from normal and is known to march to the beat of his own drummer. He went to Game 7 but Ryan admits he left early and feels terrible about it.
It’s possible Rex might be a worse Cubs fan than he is a head coach. And that’s saying something considering Ryan hasn’t made the playoffs since 2010. After serving as the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator and losing out to Jim Harbaugh as Brian Billick’s replacement, he went to the New York Jets. While he led them to the playoffs in his first two seasons, he failed to do so in each of his next four seasons.
So why would a Cubs fan just leave Game 7? It’s possible Ryan isn’t a true Cubs fan, but maybe there was an emergency. Perhaps one of his friends forgot to call off of work the next day. Maybe one of them had a family emergency. Regardless, why leave Game 7, especially if you have the means to get a ride for yourself? Ryan’s a weird guy, but this one takes the cake.
On the other hand, it’s slightly understandable. Many non-Cubs fans stopped watching once the rain delay began because they felt it would last a while. Well, it didn’t. It only lasted 17 minutes. After the delay, it didn’t take long for the Cubs to take the lead in the 10th inning.
Ryan was able to attend thanks to some scheduling luck. His Bills are getting ready to take on the Seattle Seahawks. Hey, if the Cubs can win the World Series, maybe the Bills can win the Super Bowl!
