Cubs have best odds to win World Series in 2016
Prepare the champagne, Chicago Cubs fans, the 107-season World Series championship drought could be ending in 2016, that is if you choose to believe the latest Las Vegas odds.
After making a big splash in the offseason with three big free-agent signings, the Cubs -- along with the San Francisco Giants -- are favorites to win the World Series in 2016 at 6/1 odds, according to sports betting website Bovada.
The Cubs and Giants are followed closely by the Boston Red Sox (9/1), New York Mets (14/1), Kansas City Royals (14/1) and Los Angeles Dodgers (16/1).
The Cubs finished 2015 with 97 wins, the most wins for the club since another 97-win season in 2008, but were swept in the National League Championship Series by the New York Mets. With mostly the same, young talent -- such as Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Jake Arrieta and Kyle Schwarber -- returning in 2016, the Cubs were already going to have favorable odds to make an encore performance in 2016.
The additions of Jason Heyward, Ben Zobrist and John Lackey in free agency have made the North Siders legitimate championship contenders.
