Darvish update: Rangers' ace reports 'nothing negative' with TJ recovery progress
The Texas Rangers are in the thick of the postseason race and have done so without the services of ace Yu Darvish.
Even with him undergoing Tommy John surgery prior to Opening Day, the Rangers have surpassed expectations thanks to the diligent work of manager Jeff Banister and his staff.
Meanwhile, Darvish has been going through the tedious recovery and rehab work that goes along with a TJ operation. On Tuesday, he held a meeting with the media and essentially gave the 'thumbs-up' in terms of how things are progressing (as reported by MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan).
The right-hander had a throwing session on Monday, his fourth so far in his recovery period. Speaking through his interpreter, Darvish told the media on Tuesday that, "I have experienced nothing negative. I'm doing everything I can each day, and everything is positive. I'm doing it lightly, and if I throw it too hard, they tell me to slow down."
The Rangers are hoping Darvish will be able to rejoin the starting rotation in May of 2016 - but he isn't going to rush anything in order to facilitate a quicker return: "I don't plan on pushing anything. I'm just following the program. There is nothing hard about it. It's not like I'm trying to make it by September. If they tell me to slow down, I'll slow down."
So far, so good for Darvish as he continues along the lengthy process required of all pitchers that undergo Tommy John procedures.
