Detroit Tigers release 2016 spring training schedule
Let the official countdown 'til spring begin.
The Detroit Tigers have revealed their spring training schedule for 2016 -- the organization's 80th year in Lakeland, Fla. They will kick things off on Feb. 29, when the team plays their annual exhibition game against Florida Southern College.
The Tigers will open up Grapefruit League play with a home-and-home set against the Pirates on March 1 in Lakeland, then March 2 in Bradenton.
Some of the highlights of Detroit's five-week, 35-game slate include matchups against the defending National League champion Mets, American League East champion Yankees and NL Central champion Cardinals.
The Tigers will close out the home portion of their schedule against the Rays on April 1, the final game at Joker Marchant Stadium before renovations begin. The team will have an extended stay in Florida once spring training ends, as they will face the Marlins in Miami for their regular season opener on April 5.
