Dodgers manage series split despite losing Kershaw, Greinke games
It happens but once a year. Since 2013, the Orange County Register points out that the Dodgers have lost back-to-back games pitched by Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke only once each season: September 7-8, 2013, August 15-16, 2014, and now June 22-23, 2015.
Reliever J.P. Howell admitted that things didn’t look so good after two losses in the first two games of a four game series against the Cubs. Per the Register:
“It’s bad any time you lose with those two guys. That’s our best team when they’re on the field.”
Lately though, the other three-fifths of the rotation has been pretty good too. Carlos Frias picked up his fifth win on Thursday. Mike Bolsinger, who pitched the day following Greinke’s loss, actually has a better ERA than Kershaw at 2.95. Brett Anderson has also been a steady presence with his 3.29 ERA.
The Register also points out that the bullpen was solid over the past two wins pitching 8 1/3 scoreless innings.
