Dodgers pitcher was prescribed pickle juice and spicy mustard for cramps

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Scott Kazmir dazzled against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. The new ace of the Clayton Kershaw-less Dodgers staff allowed just one run on four hits in seven innings while striking out eight to move to 8-3 on the season.

His performance was nearly ended a few innings early when he came up hobbling after leaping for a chopper back to the mound. Kazmir met with the trainers briefly before remaining in the game to finish the inning.

After the game, Kazmir discussed the cure for his cramps, which is both strange and disgusting.

"Electrolyte drink, pickle juice, some spicy mustard," Kazmir said via the Associated Press. "[The trainers] know a lot more than I do and it worked."

It certainly did work as he was able to pitch seven strong after cramping up in the fifth inning. This isn't the first time a player has been prescribed a strange formula to cure a case of the cramps. Cubs starter Jason Hammel said he was told to eat potato chips to solve his ailment.

"Any excuse I could have to eat potato chips, I did," Hammel said of eating chips between innings.

Next we'll hear trainers telling their players to eat chocolate cake to bulk up.
