Dodgers reportedly agree with Iwakuma; deal pending physical
The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t get David Price and saw Zack Greinke sign a free-agent deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. But on Sunday night, the club finally found a starting pitcher willing to pitch in Chavez Ravine.
Now they just hope his body wants to join him.
According to multiple reports, the club has agreed to a deal with free-agent right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma, the 34-year-old one-time All-Star with a 47-25 record and 3.17 ERA in four seasons with the Seattle Mariners since coming to the majors from Japan. The deal will be worth $45 million, CBS Sports reports.
Last season, Iwakuma became the second Japanese-born player (after Hideo Nomo) to throw a no-hitter in the majors, shutting down the Orioles 3-0 in August.
CBS’ Jon Heyman reports the deal is for three years and $45 million.
FOX Sports MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal, however, offers a word of a caution about a potential deal between the two sides -- particularly in light of Iwakuma’s injury history.
Zaidi is current Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi, who spent years in the Oakland front office before joining the Dodgers little more than a year ago. Iwakuma missed more than a month in 2014 with a torn tendon in a finger, then missed more than two months last season with a strained lat.
